Wellness Participate In The Ingredient Test With Your Neighbour!

When you live in a small town, it’s easier to get a group of people involved in a cause. So let’s participate!

Participate in the ingredient test with your neighbour

I have always believed that there is true power in word of mouth, mainly because it usually comes from experience.

Participate in something I call “the ingredient test

With so many different studies about what ingredients are healthy and unhealthy, it is very easy to get confused.  Yes, we all know the obvious macronutrients (carbs, fats, protein). But, I am speaking of the ingredients that break into these nutrients. When we shop food and try to make the best choices for our families, we tend to get caught up in the nutrient totals. As all of us are different sizes with different goals, those nutrient total recommendations will always vary. It is a mathematical science to break the formula!

I went to my neighbour’s house and asked her to pull 5 food items from her cabinet that she thought were “healthy”.  As her fingers ran across the products in question, she pulled out a box of cereal. We sat down and went over the ingredients. Corn flour, wheat flour, oat flour, honey, sugar, salt… She was quick to point out the obvious of what she thought was “unhealthy”.  We continued to scroll over the ingredients. Yellow 5, thiamin mononitrate, folic acid, sorbitol. This is where the confusion was.  As some of these are labeled vitamins and unrecognizable, we tend to just ignore them.  The problem is that some of these overlooked ingredients may be the cause of most of our health issues. I will not point out any exacts, but encourage you to look up the side effects when an abundance of these ingredients is digested.

Pass it on!

My neighbour went to her neighbour’s house and did the same thing with a little extra education she did from her own research.

Not everyone will participate, but if we make it through one block, we are one block closer to a healthier neighbourhood.  The idea is to educate and encourage people to make better choices, with the knowledge that they have researched on their own.

You can be the master of knowing what is best for you and your family!
