The Holy Trinity of Motion: Strength, Mobility and Control

Have you ever wondered what makes the body move like a well-oiled machine?

According to the wise words of Dr. Arash from the Prehab Guys, it all boils down to three amigos:

  • Strength
  • Mobility
  • Control

Let’s break it down like a boss:

Strength:

Flex those muscles, baby! Strength is all about your muscles’ ability to kick it into high gear and move some serious weight. Whether you’re deadlifting like a champ or busting out bicep curls, strength is the name of the game when it comes to throwing around those iron plates. Really having sets is awesome for strength gains. I like working in sets the range of 3-5 sets of 8-12.

Mobility:

Get ready to bust a move! Mobility is your body’s way of saying, “Hey, I can do that!” It’s all about rocking that full range of motion like a boss, whether you’re reaching for the top shelf or busting out some killer dance moves on the dance floor. Huge fan of doing anything 90/90 on the ground for your hips and anything involving T spine for nice mobility in the shoulders.

Control:

Time to unleash your inner zen master. Control is the secret sauce that keeps your muscles in check, whether you’re powering through eccentric, concentric, or isometric movements. It’s all about keeping those muscles on a tight leash and calling the shots like a seasoned pro. Isometric holds are some of the best techniques you can include to help strengthen tendons. Something like a barbell front squat in the deep hole really ingrains the control aspect, hold for a 3-second count, and return to a full upright position.

So, the next time you’re busting a move in the gym or crushing it on the dance floor, remember the golden rule: Strength, Mobility, Control. Master these three amigos, and you’ll be unstoppable!
