Exercise When Should You Warm-up?

The Importance of Warming Up

For those of you reading this you are probably wondering if warming up is necessary or if is it overrated. You may have worked out plenty of times without actually warming up and do not see the benefits. Well, it’s important to know that warming up does not just get the blood flowing and the body prepared to perform the task coming but it can also help to prevent injury.

This seems pretty self-explanatory for those of you with workout experience and it should be. The bigger question is:

“Should you only warm up before exercise?”

Also:

“Does warming up look the same from person to person?”

Well, the correct answer to both of these questions is no.

Warming up before exercise is important as I mentioned earlier. It is also important to warm up for other daily tasks such as work, school, or chores around the house. I often see clients who work desk jobs or active jobs and encourage both to take part in light warm-up activities before starting their day. Depending on the task they have to do will determine the warmup routines I suggest.

Working on mobility, muscle activation, postural stability, and other warm-up strategies can be the difference between getting through the workday without constant aches and pain or barely making it through half the workday because of discomfort or fatigue.

YES EVEN IF YOU WORK A JOB THAT IS PRIMARY SITTING !!!!!

Taking the time to warm up your body so it can tolerate prolonged positions is a helpful tool. Along with proper ergonomic setups and taking breaks. This can combat the risk of chronic pain and postural changes that can cause problems later on.
