Wellness What is meditation?

The dictionary defines meditation as a practice where an individual trains the mind or induces a mode of consciousness, either to realize some benefit or for the mind to simply acknowledge its content without becoming identified with that content, or as an end in itself.

Wow! That sounds like a headache just trying to understand what you just read am I right?

The term meditation simply refers to looking inside yourself to find peace during stressful situations. This can be accomplished by implementing a variety practices including but not limited to relaxation.

What is Meditation?

We all use a form of meditation every day without realizing it!

We all use a form of meditation every day without realizing it, to combat the curveballs life throws our way! For example you have a job interview and you are running late because you have to take public transportation in your stuck in traffic. You must still be able to have everything you need for the interview and be able to answer questions that the interviewer may have without being flustered.

Meditation allows you to bring yourself to place of calm, through deep breaths which slows your heart down from beating out of your chest because you have anxiety about being late.

The more relaxed you are the clearer your thought process is because you are no longer focused on the magnitude of the situation at hand allowing time for a solution to be found! Likewise meditation can also be used to focus your energy (willpower) as a World Championship athlete. I have a lot of experience in this area.

It is said then it is 80% mental and 20% physical. I see that scale being a little different being 90% mental and 10% physical!

Meaning that you can have all the physical attributes to accomplish your goal but if you do not believe in that goal it will not succeed.

On the other hand if you believe that can carry you beyond physical limitations! For example being able to lift a car off of a relative who is trapped under it. Or being able to pick up and curl 205lbs.

From a seated position, when you believe you can you surpass physical limitations and that is when the impossible becomes possible!
