LifestyleNutrition Self-Trust in Ending Compulsive Overeating

compulsive overeating

You need self-trust to break free from compulsive overeating!

Part of ending compulsive overeating is trusting yourself.

What does this mean? In my experience, compulsive eaters really do not know anymore. I didn’t.

Trust means believing in the honesty, reliability, and capacity of someone or something.

After YEARS of dieting and being told what/how/when to eat, it makes sense why trust is low.

Losing trust in your body and its natural signals, like hunger, is heartbreaking. Compulsive eaters know trust is an important piece to healing… Not just to lose fat, but to feel unshackled from the constant search for relief that lasts beyond a jar of almond butter or loaf of bread. Because when you rely on something or someone… when you trust it or them… nothing feels wrong.

It’s relaxed, calm, and even fun. There’s no tension or alertness or worry or repeated dieting in search of that peace.

Trust is a beautiful and necessary experience. Trust feels calm, reassuring, and loving.

Compulsive eaters, hear me… You won’t develop that deep self-trust overnight, as badly and as desperately as you want to and before the next binge. But the fact that you know you need self-trust to break free from compulsive overeating means you know what you need to do.

Start with your body. Your body is like meeting someBODY that you can have experiences with. With more experiences, like eating when you’re hungry and stopping or slowing down when you sense you’ve had enough, you’ll steadily decrease the anxiousness while simultaneously strengthening the curiosity and pleasure in the company of trust.

From there, and in time, you’ll feel braver to take slightly bigger risks, like going on a fat loss phase, but you’ll know when you’re ready. You’ll know what that moment feels like because when you think about food or hunger or fullness or tracking your food, your breathing won’t feel locked up and your heart won’t beat out of your chest.

You won’t feel that way. You’ll feel excitement about reaching your goal rather than dread about tolerating your goal.

Start with your body. Go out in nature. You can’t go around this work… you must go through it to get to the other side. Just like you go through a lot with that friend who you trust with your life.
