Here’s a selection of fitness tools and gadgets I recommend!

Tools for Measuring Body Compositions

One of the main fitness gadgets that we utilize is the Inbody520 . It’s a great tool for measuring body compositions, separating adipose tissue, water, bone, and lean muscle. The Inbody allows us to track your progress in a quick and comfortable environment.

Tools for Muscles Relaxation

Hyperice Hypervolt percussion is a tool many Personal Trainers are using for self-myofascial release. Self-myofascial release is the process of relaxing fascial tissue that surrounds our muscles, the technique also helps to relax tight muscles. According to the Hyperice website, Hypervolt achieves this myofascial release through percussion vibration.

Tools for Tracking Fitness Progression

Most trainers at Ames Fitness Center use Garmin watches and the Garmin Connect app. They have done an excellent job developing high quality fitness trackers for just about anything (running, swimming, biking, all three at once). Garmin also has options for weightlifting and interval workouts where you might switch between the two. The Garmin Connect app helps keep track of all your progress along with sharing your achievement with your friends. Apple and Fitbit have similar products that work great as well.

Our group Personal Training staff utilizes Myzone Connect. With the use of a heart rate strap or wristband, Myzone keeps track of your heart rate and calories burned during your workout. It assignes different colors for zones of heart rate. These zones are associated with the intensity of your workout. You must program certain workouts for higher intensity, while others for active recovery. These zones help keep us in the right zone for the right workout.  Myzone technology uses algorithms that are continuously adjusting your max heart along with the intensity level you should be at for each workout. This way your intensity level is tailored toward your needs.

Tools for Tracking Nutrition

When it comes to tracking nutrition, myfitnesspal is a great app to help you along the way. Over the years myfitnesspal has created a vast database of foods, restaurants, and recipes that makes it easy for you to track your daily calories. They make it easy to add and take away food from meal to meal along with being able to save certain foods and meals to easily add in down the road. The best part is it’s completely free. There is an option to upgrade to the premium package for a price in order to obtain a few more perks.
