Stay Motivated

I wanted to talk about something that I know everyone struggles with.

Motivation

Different things motivate people to work out. Sometimes it can change from day to day depending on how you feel. For me, I tend to get stuck in a rut with the same old workout routine and I don’t see any improvements or change. I solve this problem by spicing up my workout with something new or just change it up completely. I will discuss some various to help you stay motivated and keep reaching those goals!

One way I do this is to create a challenge for myself.

I refocus my energy on completing a specific goal rather than just another workout. This might be a challenge that I do over the course of a week or a workout that I know will be extra challenging to complete. Once the challenge is complete my challenge, I feel accomplished of what I was able to do. It helps me come up with new fitness goals and things to work on in my upcoming workouts. I like to do holiday-themed workouts or a Birthday workout. You can come up with a weekly or monthly challenge you have to complete. It is limitless really.

One more way I’ve reset the motivation cycle is to sign up for a fun 5K run. This way I have something to work toward and I set weekly goals for myself leading up to the big day. One last tip I will share with you to help me stay motivated. I look back in my workout journal. If you are not in the habit of writing down your workouts, this might be something to start doing. I can see what I was doing, how much weight I was lifting, or just the “type” of workouts I was completing. I look at it for inspiration to do something new. It shows me everything that I’ve been doing and realize I’ve come a long way and don’t want to give up on the progress.

Fitness and health are lifestyle choices

Most don’t enjoy working out, but everyone knows it’s essential to staying healthy. This is true. If you are one of those who workout begrudgingly, try and find a form of exercise that makes you happy. There are many things you can do to stay fit. Hiking, biking, rock climbing, swimming, dancing, running, group fitness classes, martial arts, and the list go on and on. Don’t feel you need to go to the gym and grind it out each week. If you become healthy and fit doing something you really enjoy, you will stick with it! I even like to say that cleaning the house is a good workout. I don’t know about you, but I tend to break a sweat cleaning.

My wish would be for everyone to find that one thing that motivates them to stay fit and healthy and make it part of their life.
