Keeping our immune system strong and working optimally is one of the greatest keys to overall wellness.   

Bet this will surprise you!

Greater than 60% – 70% of our immune system is in our gut! 

We have a symbiotic relationship with billions of bacteria, viruses, fungus, and parasites that live in our gut. This is known as our microbiome.   

Go good bacteria!

Sounds gross! But these living friends are believed to drive our immune system, keep us free from chronic disease, and keep inflammation at bay.   

Due to the Standard American Diet (SAD), almost all of us live in disbiosis! This means the bad bacteria in our gut outnumber the good bacteria. These bad guys actually kill off the good guys as well. It’s a battleground in there. 

Disbiosis is associated with every disease you can think of. 

  • Autoimmune Diseases like Rheumatoid Arthritis, Multiple Sclerosis, Celiac, Hashimoto’s.   
  • Cancers of all types
  • Obesity 
  • Irritable Bowl Syndrome and Colitis
  • Eczema and Asthma 
  • Common colds, flu, and our new friend known as COVID.  

This list goes on and on!   

Hippocrates himself, the founder of modern medicine, said that all disease begins in the gut.  

The good news! We have most of the control!

Fix your gut health, and most diseases can be reversed or prevented! And our immune system can effectively fight off pathogens and viruses.  

I’m not claiming we will not get a cold! But when our immune system/gut is working like it should, our colds will be much milder and shorter than the average person living in disbiosis!  

And yes!! I did say we can fully reverse some diseases by fixing our gut! This does depend on many factors. However, I do know people that have fully reversed eczema and slowed, to almost stopped the progression of Multiple Sclerosis.   

Medications do play a role in helping with disease, but fixing the root cause is the key to healing!

What can we do to start healing our gut?

  • Avoid all processed foods! These feed the bad bacteria and kill the good guys. 
  • Avoid sugar and artificial sweeteners! They also feed the bad guys and kill the good guys.  
  • Eat a diet packed with veggies and fruits! The prebiotics and fiber in these foods feed the good bacteria (probiotics).   
  • Eat fermented foods like miso, kimchi, and sauerkraut. These are a good source of good bacteria to replenish our gut.  
  • Consider removing gluten from your diet! Gluten causes leaky gut, and kills off the good guys in our gut. 
  • Talk to your doctor about probiotics like Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium.  

One last note:   

Taking supplements without removing processed foods, sugar, and eating a clean healthy diet, does not work! The bad gut bugs feed off these unhealthy choices if we do not remove them.
