Simple daily habits like walking, reading, and hydration boost energy, health, and mood.
It’s no lie that having healthy habits will make your life easier and help you feel better. What exactly are some of these habits, though, and how exactly do they help?
1. Drinking plenty of water throughout the day
Aside from the survival part of drinking water, why is it important to drink water?
When you drink water, you are supplying your cells with something they need. This is for ALL cells in your body. Drinking water helps aid your digestion, and it will promote blood flow and toxin flushing. It will keep your skin taut and glowing, it will promote better lymph fluid drainage, and support your immune system. There are many reasons.
Try to drink throughout the day instead of chugging a lot in one moment. Try to notice/track how much you are actually drinking.
2. Taking small walks after meals
This is probably my favorite habit to promote. I can almost guarantee that if you take a 5-30 minute walk after each meal you have, you will notice a massive improvement in your digestion, your energy levels, and your sleep. Walking will help the food keep moving and not stay stagnant. It will help you remove gas from your body and will promote blood flow not only to your muscles but to your digestive system.
3. Delaying screen time after you wake up
Somehow, something so trivial has an incredible impact. By delaying being on screens for at least an hour after waking up, you are promoting a healthy nervous system and setting up your day well.
Screens and social media can cause a lot of stress to your mind and body. By delaying the time, you are already delaying that stress input.
By delaying the time before screens, you are allowing your body to wake up naturally, as it needs. If you woke up and immediately got on your phone, it may have been that your body needed more rest; now it may be harder to recognize that signal and go back to sleep.
Have you noticed feeling sluggish or wanting to be lazy when you are doomscrolling or playing phone games? By waiting to get on your phone, you are able to combat that feeling and set your day up to be more productive and enjoyable!
4. Small bouts of movement throughout the day
While working out and having dedicated time to hard exercise is important and not something to be looked over, keeping active throughout the day is just as important.
Did you know that walking throughout the day has been shown to decrease the risk of type 2 diabetes, dementia, obesity, major depression, and sleep apnea? There are more benefits like this, but this short list is pretty incredible. Just like walking after meals aids digestion, so does moving throughout the day.
5. Reading a few pages from a book
Stimulating your brain by reading is a great habit to get into. So often with working or going about day-to-day, a routine is made, and we tend to mindlessly complete tasks. By including reading or some other form of learning, you are breaking that mindless routine, stimulating a part of your brain that might otherwise be neglected. Even if the book is not “educational” in some way, you are still triggering a creative part of yourself. It is a habit to help your eyes, your brain, and the rest of your nervous system.
Have you tried any of these? If not, I encourage you to give them a chance and see your life transform!
