5 Tips to Boost Your Self-Confidence and Unleash Your Superpowers

Kelly from U GOT THIS 1 LIFE is standing tall and full of gratitude on the beaches of Bali. Creating her best life and empowering others to do the same.

We aren’t born with a limitless supply of self-confidence. People that seem to have a high level of confidence have worked extremely hard for years to build it and most importantly made it a practice. They have made it a practice int their lives (developing their superpowers). Self-confidence is something that you learn to build up and practice because life and others tend to deflate it along the way. Along with the outside influences that can affect our self-esteem, we also have to deal with the inner critic (why do we talk to ourselves poorly?)  that is continually telling us we aren’t good enough.

Here are 5 things that you can do to help boost your self-confidence and keep it!

1. Question Your Inner Critic

I can’t believe how much all the negative self talk we talk. It is a habit and we can change. This was very true for me and I am sure lots of you. Some of the harshest comments that we hear come from ourselves, via our inner critic. How effed up is that? When your inner critic becomes overactive and inaccurate, you may start to suffer from low self-esteem. To help combat your inner critic, look for evidence to support or deny the things that it is saying to you. Find opportunities to compliment, congratulate, and reward yourself, even for your smallest accomplishments.

2. Do Something Every Day that Scares You

Now before you “jump” to any conclusions, I am not saying go jump from a plane, climb a cliff or jump off one either (unless that excites you, challenges you and you want to – then yes – try these!)

Side note: This is actually on my list this year to jump from a perfectly good airplane of this place called the palms island in Dubai for my own Christmas gift to myself. It is so scary, way outside my comfort limit, I have a pretty decent fear of heights and I almost get sick thinking about it but I also have the opposite feelings about it. I am so excited, it’s crazy huge in an awesome way, feeling challenged and inspired and these are the feelings I want to follow to live my best life.

But you can start by saying “Hi” to a stranger or giving them a high five. Walk up to tell someone they look handsome or beautiful, maybe ask someone out for a coffee date. The point here is just to push your comfort limit. The best way for you to overcome fear is to face it head-on. Getting out of your comfort zone and facing your fears will help you to gain more confidence. By doing something that scares you every day, you’ll start to gain confidence from those experiences and will quickly experience a boost in your self-confidence. You will be surprised by the results.

3. Visualize Yourself as You Want to Be

Visualization is a powerful technique (superpower) that requires you to see a picture of yourself that you are proud of, in your mind. You want to really get into this, feel the feelings, see it and be there. When struggling with low self-esteem, we often have a poor perception of ourselves that tends to be inaccurate. Practice visualizing a beautiful version of yourself achieving your goals, to help you boost your confidence.

4. Set Realistic Goals

Set yourself up for success. Setting unrealistic goals that are difficult to achieve will only cause you to become discouraged about your abilities. Start by setting small goals for yourself that you can reach quickly. Once you’ve achieved some success, you can move on to harder goals.

5. Affirm Yourself

The trick to making lasting changes to shift the way you view yourself. We tend to believe what we tell ourselves, so repeating positive affirmations daily will help to boost your self-confidence. To get your mind to accept the positive affirmations quickly, phrase them as a question. Our brains are wired to seek answers to a question, without analyzing if the question is valid.

Every day we are bombarded with numerous elements that can threaten our self-confidence, with these tips you can start to take charge of building yourself up and boosting your self-confidence.

This is a practice (superpower) we can develop every day. Once it becomes a habit and part of your life you will feel your life transform. You got this!

Mindset and small shifts that create a big impact – the power in the words we use.

I use the word superpower a lot in regards to creating habits or new practices because it helps me with a mindset shift. I feel creating a new habit is incredible but when I think of it as I am creating a new superpower I get even more fired up! We put so much power in certain words because others have and that is what we learned but you can change this. What sounds better to you. Words you use have power so make it work in your favour.
