Exercise 5 Secrets to Entering the Holiday Season

5 Secrets to Entering the Holiday Season

It’s not newsworthy that most Americans wait until the start of the New Year to begin an exercise program and that by the end of January, many resolutions, plans, and goals to become fit this calendar year go by the wayside. In December, it all sounded so good, but January comes all too soon for our procrastinators. So here are 5 secrets to entering the holiday season.

So we make New Year Resolutions, spend about $60 Billion annually and still gain, according to the CDC, 1 to 2 pounds per year! The average man in his 20s weighs about 180 pounds and by his 30s weighs an average of over 200 pounds. So, we have to ask ourselves, what the heck are we doing wrong?

As a fitness trainer of over 20 years, having worked with hundreds of clients, I can vouch for the fact that the “I’ll start in January” mentality is a real problem.  It gives us an excuse to eat poorly and delay exercise, and we all know what that means!

Life gets in the way, next year rolls around and we try again, starting a few pounds heavier, a little more sedentary and more frustrated.

So given how tired we all are, short of giving up our ice cream and all of our fun treats, how the heck can we enter the holiday season as a fitness badass and maybe even a little bit leaner than last year?

Keep reading and I will help you do what you thought you couldn’t! I will provide you with 5 secrets to entering the holiday season as a fitness badass!

First – Build your Fitness Base

Rome wasn’t built in a day!

That means take baby steps. So start slow and easy even if it means just parking far from your office, taking the stairs instead of the elevator or doing a workout you consider light and easy.  You will be much less likely to procrastinate and you will be building your base. At Functional Fitness Guru, we always give our clients time to learn how their body reacts to exercise and incorporate a program that fits nicely into our clients’ lifestyle.

Second-Add healthy food to your diet instead of depriving yourself

Don’t think about pink elephants!  What happens when we say we can’t have or do something? We become obsessed with that thing. Am I right?  So, how about focusing on eating 4-5 servings of fruits and veggies each day and drinking at least 8 glasses of water? Healthier eating will follow. At Functional Fitness Guru, we never expect our clients to deprive themselves in order to achieve their goals

Third-Meditate for five minutes per day

Connect the body and mind!

Studies show that when meditation can change behavior and lead to weight loss. What have you got to lose, except maybe a few pounds? At Functional Fitness Guru, we provide affirmations on a regular basis to help keep our clients in the right headspace.

Fourth-Keep a log

It may sound silly but studies show that the simple act of keeping a diet and exercise log can help you lose weight. At Functional Fitness Guru, we track your logs daily to make sure you are on the path to success.

Fifth-Be Patient with Yourself

Too much hurry will bury your goals. Too much haste will make you waste and a too quick race will cripple your pace. Be patient.”
