I have been working as a IFPA Master Personal Trainer and athletic lifestyle coach at Ultimate Fitness since 2005 and here is my story.
I grew up in a family that was very physically active and well as military. My dad was a helicopter pilot in the Navy. He earned the purple heart as well as several other medals during his time in the Navy before becoming a successful optometrist. My grandpa served as a Sergeant Major in the Marines, my Uncle was in the Navy and my brother is currently an officer in the Navy. All of my four brothers were either soccer players, swimmers, water polo players, or a part of outrigger canoe club.
I grew up swimming, playing hockey, and basketball. Besides training in the gym, I also enjoy outdoor sports such as hiking, kayaking, stand up paddle boarding, surfing, and bike riding. Over the last 2 years I have started participating in the Spartan and Tough Mudder Obstacle courses. Staying active has giving me the opportunity to be able to “keep up” with my son Zeke (born in 2016) and take him out on hiking and outdoor adventures. My son has been in 5k running events such as the San Diego Santa Run and San Diego Leprechaun Run since he was 3 years old. My son is now at the age where he enjoys bike riding and is looking forward to competing in a Spartan race.
My goal as your trainer is to create a program that motivates you to reach your goals and maintain a healthy balance inside and out side the gym. Too many people fall in to extreme fitness trends and do not maintain results or they see fitness as a “burden”. If you are looking for a “crash diet”, “fad diet”, or “challenge”, I would not be your ideal trainer.
