“Hey, I’m Coach Sage! I founded Rhys Above Fitness back in January 2022.
Since I was a young boy, I always wanted to look like Arnold Schwarzenegger in the movie Commando, and Goku from Dragon Ball (Shout out to Saturday Morning Cartoons)!
My love for fitness has always been there, but the seed was never sown until after one of the darkest periods of my life. Without going into too much detail, I lost my license twice, lost my girlfriend, and both of my jobs all in a span of about 1 or 2 months. I started looking for answers at the bottom of Corona bottles. Unfortunately, no matter how many I put back, those answers never came. I had gained about 35ish lbs in one Summer.
Eventually, things started looking up and because I didn’t have a license, I had to bike from Lorette, Manitoba to my new job in downtown Winnipeg. The bike I was using was old and rickety, not to mention, I had ZERO cardiovascular ability at the time. So each ride was about 3 ½ hours. That's about 7 hours of cardio a day. Not exactly the healthiest fat loss model out there, but it did help give me a great foundation and in part might be why I have been called “Quadzilla” by friends and coworkers.
From there, I started getting serious about strength training and was partly inspired by Stallone in the Rocky movies (best movies ever).
I signed up at my local gym with trainer Chad Miazga who prepped me for my first bodybuilding competition in the WNBF. I took home 3rd overall in the open category. Not too bad for only 2 years of serious training under my belt. I competed the next year, too, but I didn’t do as well. Such is life.
I was so proud of what I had accomplished, that I decided to become a coach and help others with their transformations and journeys, too. Chad helped me get a job at Anytime Fitness where I coached hundreds of people from ALL walks of life. I learned how to coach and figured out what sort of information that I was missing. That lasted for about 2.5-3 years before Querwin from QPT Fitness Coaching reached out and offered me a partnership position alongside my good friend and Anytime coworker Kondwani. Together, the 3 of us have been helping hundreds of women learn about fitness and change their lives.
We partnered up with Supplement World Winnipeg to help give our clients a great experience, and eventually I took a daytime position there to act as an ambassador of both the QPT and Supplement World brands.
Now, alongside my wife, Annie, I am extending that invitation to you to make a significant change and Rise Above your former self.
