My athletic background started with track & field, where I competed in shot put and discus in addition to running both cross country & track. I ran cross country for the University of Michigan. After college, I began my teaching career and have coached high school athletes for 39 years. I studied sports psychology and nutrition at UCI, in addition to taking other fitness based coursework. I have incorporated strength training into my personal fitness routine intermittently for over 3 decades and appreciate the increased research and importance of strength training as we age.
