About Christopher

When you think of high performance, in athletics and beyond, remember the name "Christopher Bates". Driven by his call to service, Bates is emerging within the realm of sports medicine, human performance development, and wellness, as a trusted, credible, and accessible voice.

Bates is a proud family man, the foundation from which he has passionately practiced the craft of sports medicine and human performance for well over a decade, both as a Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC), as well as a Registered Strength & Conditioning Coach (RSCC). His experiences and paradigms for excellence have led to the creation and establishment of several holistic sports medicine and athletic-performance development programs found in the sectors of Olympic, university, high school and youth sport.

Currently, Bates serves as the Men’s Sports Medicine Manager for USA Water Polo, where he provides primary and continuing medical support and care for Team USA’s Men’s Olympic team. Furthermore, Bates directs the athletic-performance development of the Olympic team, as well as assists with the oversight of medical support and care for the youth Olympic Developmental teams.

Concurrent to his roles with USA Water Polo, Bates and his family manage and lead their private sports medicine and human performance company, which aims to service and support high-performing athletes of all levels, who otherwise would not have access to the level of coaching, training, and leadership that is offered exclusively within large university athletic departments, or professional and Olympic sports.

Prior to his Role with USA Water Polo, Bates spent a summer assisting the sports medicine and athletic performance staff of USA Volleyball, as they prepared the Men’s and Women’s indoor and beach teams for the games in Rio.

Bates’ most long-standing success is the creation and development of California Baptist University’s strength and conditioning program which services all of the university’s NCAA sports, now in it's 10th year of existence.

Bates holds degrees from Cal State Fullerton and California Baptist University in Kinesiology, with emphasis in Athletic Training, Strength & Conditioning, and Sports Management. He is currently in pursuit of a doctoral degree in Positive Developmental Psychology.

Beyond service to his family and employer, Chris exists to address the human potential in all whom he encounters, while helping them navigate the risks and severities of injury that life may bring.
