Hi, my name is Neena! I am a 2021 graduate from UBC, with my Bachelor's degree in Kinesiology with a minor in Psychology. I started working in the fitness industry 2 years ago as an EMS Trainer, and recently became certified as an American Counsel on Exercise (ACE) Certified Personal Trainer. I am now also working on becoming a certified Nutritionist as I want to teach people to have a healthy, fun and loving relationship with food!
I was raised in Tanzania (East Africa) before moving to Vancouver in 2016. Back home, I was a competitive swimmer for 9 years and although I no longer competitively swim, it is still my favourite sport. Throughout middle school and high school I also worked with children with disabilities teaching them art skills, swimming skills, and much more. Through swimming and working with these children is where my love and interest in health and fitness comes from. I continued my love for health and fitness through Kinesiology, being a trainer, and being a children's sports coach. In my free time I enjoy going on long walks, watching Disney+, playing with my adorable fur baby Moana, hanging out with my family and friends, and learning how to crochet.
As a trainer, I love being able to constantly learn and be challenged. I love helping my clients reach their optimal potential through training and boosting their self-confidence. It is also important to me to support my clients' mental wellbeing through their fitness journey with me.
In my personal life, 2022 was a hard year for me. I struggled with my health and became incredibly unfit, seeing changes in my body that made me self-conscious. In this time, I also learned about the importance of positive self-perception, appreciating the small wins, and supporting myself and being my own cheerleader. Today, I'm back in the gym, working on rehab for my body and slowly rebuilding my strength. This experience has taught me different supportive methods that I am able to implement in my time with my clients in order for them to have a positive fitness journey and also help them develop an appreciation for their body and self.
My experiences from childhood till today are the reason I believe that fitness is a journey, and with the right support, you will surely see the difference you want to see in yourself and you will love every bit of the journey to get there and more.
